The "Worst" AC Temperature Isn't What You Think
At VacuMan Furnace and Duct Cleaning, we’re all about keeping your home comfortable—without torching your hydro bill. Dropping your thermostat into the teens won’t cool it faster; it just forces your AC into overdrive—unnecessary work that costs you more.
Never Set Your AC Below 21 °C
Unless you’re keeping your garage frozen, anything under 21 °C is overkill. Your system takes longer to cool, guzzles more power, and wears out faster. Stick between 22 °C and 25 °C—easy comfort, smaller bills.
When You’re Not Home
Off to the cottage or out for errands? Raise the temp by 5–7 °C, to around 28–30 °C. It stops your AC from overcooling an empty house and keeps humidity in check.

Nighttime Cooling
Night’s cooler—so give your AC a rest. Raise the thermostat a bit and run a fan. Comfortable sleep, lower energy use.
Use AUTO, Not ON
Set your fan to AUTO, not ON. ON blows air constantly—even when the AC isn’t cooling—recirculating warm, damp air and creating a wonky cold-humid vibe.
Cool the Canadian Way
A few smart tweaks go a long way:
- Plant trees or shrubs to shade windows
- Keep blinds or curtains closed during peak sunshine
- Grill outdoors instead of cooking indoors
- Seal gaps around doors and windows
- Install a smart thermostat to automate your comfort (even in traffic on the 403)
Still Melting? The Culprit Could Be Your Ducts.

We also serve Hamilton, Grimsby, Milton, Brantford, and St. Catharines.
One more solid example from us: summertime humidity is a breeding ground for mould and reduced air quality. Clean ducts help prevent that and keep your HVAC running smoothly.
