From Father to Son: 45 Years of Clean Air and the Oldfield Family Legacy

A Father’s Day reflection from Adam Oldfield, President | Vacu-Man Furnace & Duct Cleaning

Father’s Day has a way of making you stop and think. Not just about the people who raised you, but about what they built — and what it means to be trusted with it.

At Vacu-Man, that reflection comes naturally this time of year.

Stephen Oldfield founded Vacu-Man Furnace and Duct Cleaning on August 27, 1980. What started as one man’s commitment to clean air and honest work in Hamilton has grown into a company that now serves Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, and Brantford. Forty-five years later, that original commitment has not wavered a single bit.

The Man Behind the Name

Stephen did not just build a company. He built a standard.

“Do It Right or Don’t Do It At All” has been Vacu-Man’s motto from the beginning, and it did not come from a marketing meeting. It came from a man who showed up every day and meant it.

To this day, Stephen still comes around. He fixes what needs fixing — a radiator here, a mechanical issue there — and he offers the kind of expertise that simply cannot be Googled. Decades of field knowledge walking in through the shop door is something you do not take for granted.

As for Adam? Well, let’s just say he has been involved in the family business since back when child labour was still legal. Some people grow up in the family kitchen. Adam grew up in the family ducts. There is something to be said for a man who has literally been breathing this business his whole life — which, thankfully, is a lot cleaner now than it used to be.

When Adam officially took over as President in 2019, the goal was never to reinvent Vacu-Man. It was to protect what made it worth protecting — and then build on it.

A Family Carries It Forward

Adam and Michelle Oldfield are proud to carry the Vacu-Man name forward together. Michelle serves as Co-Owner and Vice President, and their shared commitment to this business reflects the same values Stephen instilled from day one. It is not just a job. It is a legacy.

Running a family business means accountability runs deeper than a policy manual. It means the people who answer your phone, clean your furnace, and show up at your front door understand that their work reflects a name. A real name. An Oldfield name.

Clean Air Has Always Been the Mission

What Vacu-Man does has not changed. We clean furnaces, duct systems, and dryer vents — and we do it with the training, equipment, and attention to detail that 45 years of experience demands. Our technicians hold TSSA G2 gas licences, understand airflow and negative pressure, and take pride in leaving every home better than they found it.

But staying true to the mission does not mean standing still.

Introducing VM CleanTrail

One of the ways Vacu-Man has evolved is through our proprietary customer portal, VM CleanTrail. Every time we complete a service, we leave behind a QR-coded sticker on your furnace. Scan it at any time to access your property’s full service history, before and after photos from every visit, your dryer vent Certificate of Completion, and easy online booking for your next appointment.

No login required. No account to manage. Just your home’s complete service record, always available — even when you sell the house and a new family moves in.

It is the kind of innovation that reflects what Vacu-Man has always believed: clean air matters, but being able to see it and trust it matters just as much.

To Every Family Celebrating This Father’s Day

Whether your dad still shows up to fix the radiator or you are carrying on something he started, this time of year is a reminder of what gets built one year at a time, one job at a time.

From our family to yours — Happy Father’s Day.
