Now Available: Canadian-Made Furnace Filters

45 Years Behind Every Filter We Sell

For the past 45 years, we’ve provided Canadian-made filters to our customers after every air duct cleaning we complete. Having seen more than a few dirty furnaces over that time, we know firsthand how much of a difference the right filter makes in keeping a furnace running the way it should.

Why We Made Them Available Online

We’ve always believed in supporting Canadian manufacturing where we can, and making our filters directly available to order, rather than only supplying them during a service visit, means customers can keep up with regular replacements without waiting for their next cleaning appointment.

Filter Options and Quantities

Pack Sizes

We currently offer our pleated filters in two quantities: a 3-pack for those who want to stock up for the year, and a 12-pack for households or businesses that prefer to order once and be set for an extended period.

Coming Soon: Filter of the Month

We’re also working on a filter-of-the-month subscription, where a fresh Vacu-Man furnace filter arrives at your home at the start of each month, ready to swap directly into your furnace. No more trying to remember when the last one went in.

Why Changing Your Filter Regularly Actually Matters

The Cost of Skipping It

Even a slightly dirty furnace filter can impact your indoor air quality and your electricity bill. As airflow gets restricted, your furnace has to work harder to push air through, which can strain the system and, in some cases, lead to repairs costing thousands of dollars, not to mention reduced airflow throughout your entire duct system.

Situations That Call for More Frequent Changes

If you have a pet, burn candles regularly, or recently completed a renovation, you’ll want to check and change your filter more often than the standard schedule. All three of these accelerate how quickly a filter loads up with particles.

Understanding MERV Ratings

What MERV Actually Measures

According to the EPA, MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) measures a filter’s ability to capture particles between 0.3 and 10 microns, using a testing method developed by ASHRAE. The higher the rating, the more effectively the filter traps smaller particles, though it’s worth noting that a higher MERV rating isn’t automatically the right choice for every furnace, since some systems aren’t built to handle the airflow resistance that comes with denser filtration.

MERV 8: Cost-Effective, Solid Airflow

MERV 8 is our most cost-effective option and provides strong airflow while still capturing large allergens: household dust, pollen, dust-mite debris, and lint. It’s a reliable choice for most standard furnace setups.

MERV 13: Maximum Filtration

MERV 13 offers our highest level of filtration while still allowing strong airflow to the furnace. In addition to large allergens like household dust, pollen, dust-mite debris, mold spores, and pet dander, it also captures small allergens including smoke, smog, bacteria, and particles that can carry viruses or odors.

Charcoal: Best for Odor Control

Our charcoal filter is the best choice if odor is a specific concern in your home, whether from pets, tobacco smoke, cooking, mildew, or cleaning chemicals. It captures the same large allergens as our other filters (household dust, pollen, dust-mite debris, mold spores, pet dander) plus small allergens like smoke, smog, and bacteria, with the added benefit of odor absorption.

Sizing and Ordering

Standard Size

We currently carry filter size 16 x 25 x 1, which is the standard replacement size for most residential furnaces.

Custom Sizes on Request

If your furnace requires a different size, we do offer custom furnace air filters on request. Call us at 905.333.5454 and we’ll provide a quote.

How to Order

You can order directly through our website, or by calling our office at 905.333.5454. If you’d rather email us with the specific filter and quantity you’re looking for, we’re happy to help that way too.

Installing Your Furnace Filter Correctly

Every furnace filter has an arrow printed on its frame showing the direction of airflow. That arrow should always point toward the furnace, not away from it, since installing a filter backward forces your blower to push air through the solid edge of the frame, straining the motor and cutting filtration efficiency. If you can’t find the arrow, check your furnace’s owner’s manual, or if it’s been a while since anyone’s looked at your setup, our furnace inspection service can confirm everything’s fitted correctly. You can also call us at 905.333.5454 and we’ll walk you through it over the phone.

Furnace Filters in Hamilton, Burlington, Milton & Brantford

A Local, Family-Run Company

Vacu-Man has been a local, family-operated duct cleaning company for 45 years, serving Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Grimsby, Brantford, St. Catharines, and Niagara for both commercial and residential customers. Offering our own Canadian-made filters online is a natural extension of the same work we’ve been doing on every service call for decades.

Pairing Filters With Regular Duct Cleaning

The right filter matters, but it works best alongside regular duct and furnace cleaning, since a clean duct system and a properly maintained filter both contribute to the same goal: better airflow and better air quality throughout your home.

FAQs

How often should I change my furnace filter?

It depends on your household, but a slightly dirty filter can already affect your air quality and energy bill. If you have pets, burn candles, or recently renovated, you’ll want to check and change it more frequently than a typical household.

MERV 8 captures large allergens like dust, pollen, and lint with strong airflow, while MERV 13 captures those same large allergens plus small allergens like smoke, bacteria, and particles that can carry viruses, offering the highest filtration we provide.

Our standard size is 16 x 25 x 1, which fits most residential furnaces. Custom sizes are available on request with a quote.

Check the frame for printed dimensions in the format length x width x depth. If they’ve worn off, measure the frame itself rather than the filter media, since actual filters run slightly smaller than the labeled size.

The arrow printed on the filter frame should point toward the furnace, in the direction air flows through the system. Installing it backward restricts airflow and reduces how well the filter captures particles.

Yes. Filters can be purchased directly online or by calling 905.333.5454, independent of any scheduled service.

It’s a coming-soon subscription service where a fresh Vacu-Man furnace filter is delivered to your home at the start of each month, so you can change it right away without having to remember or reorder.

Summary

Regular filter changes matter more than most homeowners realize: even a slightly dirty filter can strain your furnace, raise your energy bill, and reduce airflow throughout your ducts.
