Vacu-Man is a family run business that now is operated by Adam Oldfield, who learned under his father the art of furnace and air duct cleaning.
Vacu-Man was asked to do an interview with Beststartup.ca to talk about the vision of where the company is going and how it successfully has endured three recessions, and currently battling through the covid crisis in Ontario.
The questions asked were quite interesting and I thought I would take a moment and give more depth to the questions.

What is our vision for 5 years?
What a great question to ask and it’s always a difficult one to answer. 3 years ago if this question was asked I think the answer would have been much different than it is today. But like anything in business you have to be resilient and able to change and pivot in a minute. As an example, when covid first came on scene and businesses were forced to close. It was a moment in the company that spread panic and wondered if we were going to continue to be in business.
I remember in the 1990s my father ran the company and during that time there was a recession that was difficult for everyone. There is a time where for almost a month there was barely any work. My father persevered and he was able to manage scraping pennies together and working on how to get our name into the market.
It’s a testament to what I’ve learned not only how the business works but what we need to do as a business during tough times. We adapt. As an example we have covid policies and ensure that our staff are safe in every way possible.
In addition, we promote this to not only our customers but to our partners and suppliers. We’ve reached out to different businesses to let them know we are able to assist. And we’ve made phenomenal relationships with different companies during this time.
WHO DO WE PARTNER WITH?
Restoration companies, new construction build, residential contracting and Commercial contracting businesses. My father did a great job in making sure that we wouldn’t do a project if we couldn’t do it right. Sometimes even when it made us lose money.
We took pride in making sure that the customer was always satisfied with the work we’ve completed. Not to be confused with a customer taking advantage of us. Let me be also Crystal clear, many customers have tried to take advantage of our services as well.
In addition we’re also battling those phone calls you continuously get overseas asking if you would like to have duct cleaning for $99. Only to send in someone who will bring a vacuum clean out your registers only. Claiming that they will clean the furnace but not be licensed to do so or even go into the furnace at all
