Happy New Year! The first duct cleaning call of 2024
The First Duct Cleaning Call of 2024: A New Year’s Wake-Up
I’m writing this in the morning of January 1, 2024. The first duct cleaning call of the year caught me off guard. I was just getting the sleep out of my eyes when I realized that the phone was ringing. Thinking I was about to talk with a friend, family member, or a customer, I was rudely awakened by the sound of a broken phone call and the voice of someone from overseas (India, I think) asking if I was interested in having duct cleaning done for $99.
Yes, it’s only 9 hours and 44 minutes into 2024, and the owner of Vacu-Man Furnace and Duct Cleaning got the first annoying solicited duct cleaning call. I was shocked yet amused, so I let the pitch begin. I heard of their services offering all my vents, ducts, and sanitation spray—all for the low, low price of $99. When I asked the person what company he was from, he told me Ontario Duct Cleaning.
The first duct cleaning call made me realize the audacity of these scammers. I should mention that Ontario Duct Cleaning is our competition and a legit company that exists like Vacu-Man Furnace and Duct Cleaning. I know my competition well, and once again, these soliciting callers were impersonating a legit duct cleaning company, claiming they do duct cleaning in Oakville and duct cleaning in Burlington. In reality, it’s someone out of North Toronto, cheating poor customers into losing $99 for absolutely nothing. This first duct cleaning call highlighted the ongoing issue of scam calls that continue to plague our industry.
The First Duct Cleaning Call Scam
The first duct cleaning call scam I encountered this morning was an eye-opener. I’ve included an audio clip of the conversation today, as I always like to have proof when I make these claims. Regardless, I just said it’s too early in the morning and I had to move on. This experience of the first duct cleaning call of 2024 was not the best start to my year. The first duct cleaning call reminded me of the importance of customer vigilance. It’s easy to fall for these scams, especially when they impersonate reputable companies. The first duct cleaning call serves as a warning to always verify who you are dealing with.
